New tarmac drive sunk in places and a bit rough on top

We had a tarmac drive laid a week ago, resurfaced main bit and extended a metre either side. The job looked really good until rain over the weekend ..
Now there are "sink holes" on one of the extended sides. In addition some of the stones have come loose from the main drive and it looks "rough" in places, not smooth. I spoke with the contractor who to be fair will take a look but worried about getting fobbed off ... I can't see how he can argue with the sink holes but I'm not sure what the top surface is meant to look like ... I do know it's SMA and that was a selling point as we were told that's the best quality ...
Anyone know anything about this???
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?
Hi, it sounds like the sub base material is either the wrong material or it hasn’t been dug out to the correct depth or compacted properly. When patching tarmac you will never get it to match up with the existing so it looks perfect. Tarmac is laid in two stages, base course and Top course, the top course can be plained off completely and then replaced as one so you will have no patches and a new look Finnish. The industry standard for pooling is 3mm this means that in areas on the tarmac surface can have standing water but at no point should it be deeper than 3mm which is the depth of a pound coin for easy reference.

The contractor that laid your drive way has either cut corners and not laid enough stone underneath the tarmac or they've either not laid enough tarmac on the driveway and it could also be down to the stone not being rolled properly and still having movement init.

The contractor has not laid enough sub-base under the tarmac.
No othèr reason it could be sinking.
Trying to scrimp and save on materials for more profit.
Plain and simple sorry to say .
Best wishes.

I to believe that the contractor hasn't out enough subbase down.
That would definitely be a big part however rolling could of been cut short and maybe selling you a high end brand of tarmac and providing the cheapest stuff they could find without you being aware
