I'm replacing a like for like under counter oven. It was a struggle getting the old one out and now the new one is approx 3mm too wide for the existing housing What are my options as I can not afford to replace the whole kitchen housing units

When you say housing, do you mean a kitchen unit?
If so, a refund and a smaller oven is your best option.

If the reveal doesn't protude so much that it won't interfere with other doors or draws and there is enough material to cut then normally we trim the opening. Sometimes just little notches to allow screw heads through also can work.when cutting use low tac tape to prevent cutting tools damaging the finish. Also it will require a jigsaw and skill saw to make the cut. Draw your line on the tape.

Some built under ovens, usually 700-715mm ones don't require a housing but come with legs or angle plates to fix to the adjacent units.
