Fitting a new 40mm kitchen sink waste to a 43/45mm waste pipe
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM
Hi all, I've spent the last few weeks trying to research and solve this problem and even speaking to the guys in Wolsely plumbing (they didn't know) didn't help. I thought you could add pictures here but I can't see where to add them! I am fitting a new kitchen sink and the waste I got with it is the standard 40mm compression type fittings with a down pipe and a P trap connected to it. The waste that goes out of the external wall is connected to a non-return valve (or T-piece) and the old sink waste came into the top part of the T-piece. It's been stuck to the main waste pipe with all sorts of tape and nonsense. The output from the new trap was just too short to go into the top of the T-piece so I got a flexible connector than can bend 90 degrees. But even if I put a 40mm pipe to go into the top of the old T-piece the T-piece itself is about 43/45mm diameter and I can't figure out the best way to connect them - any ideas? The top of the T-Piece/non-return has a compression type fitting so it has a thread. The previous owner just shoved a 40mm pipe into this but it was loose so if the waste going outside or the non-return valve had ever been blocked it would have come back into the kitchen sink unit.
