Cutting Beams down in the loft
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM
Our loft is converted already and the wooden beams are on show however my son (his bedroom) keeps smacking his head on them so is it possible to cut them down so they are flush with the roof walls ?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I do not think you should be asking questions like this. We're not structural engineers or clairvoyant. So i suggest if i was you I'd employ the services of an engineer. Take photos and send them by email with enquiry. You will still have to full expose beam for qualifications calculations.

Hello, it will depend if the beams are supporting beams if so I’m afraid you won’t be able to cut them .Also to be able to cut them in situ maybe a very difficult job to actually do .Also If they are actually solid beams and not a fake beam hiding a steel .Without seeing a picture it would be hard to say. Hope this is some help .

The best course of action would be to get a structural Engineer to have a look at the beams. They will then be able to determine if they can or cannot be removed. Do not take advice from anyone other than someone who is qualified to make these decisions. A wrong decision could have the roof collapse!!!
