Aluminium foil around the unvented water tank

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hello there, We have electric unvented water tank. It seemed that it was loosing water temperature in the evening. The storage room, where the tank is located, was also warm. I wrapped the tank with aluminium foil. The water is hotter in the evening now. I do not know if it is because of the foil or because the temperature outside is not so cold these days. I am little bit worried, it might be a fire hazard or it could damage the tank. Any advice? Thank you for the answer!

Unvented cylinders commonly have a layer of PU foam (about 60mm) around the internal vessel giving adequate insulation to avoid regenerative heating. It may be that the stored hot water is used in the daytime therefore requiring time to re-heat. Aluminium foil is an electrical conductor and should not be used as a shroud around any electrical appliance.
