Septic tank soakaway.
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM
Not sure if this is a question for a plumber or a groundwork expert but here goes. I am looking to install a septic tank and soak away. Now some one has told me I can not discharge water into my own land from the tank. I wanted to use septix tank soak away crates that are advertised online. But i have been told these are not legal? There is a website that states they are but say they are not. Does any one have any advice?

They are completely legal. They are very common. Ensure the area is dug to correct depth allow 50mm bedding for sand then lay DPM out then the crates on top, wrap the DPM around the crates and seal the joints with DPM double sided tape. Make sure the pipe is inside the DPM and sealed at the joints between DPM and pipe.

A Septic Tank Soakaway is not a hole filled with rubble, crates or tunnels. Crates and Tunnels are not allowed to be used with a Septic Tank. Specifically designed infiltration tunnels can be used with permission in conjunction with a Sewage Treatment Plant.
Specialist company does this normally
