Brown smoky water dripping from woodburner flue

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hi, I've had various leaks in my chimney due to cracked flaunching. They've been sorted. Today I noticed drips coming from between the flexible liner and the insulation that surrounds it. The water was not on the outside of the insulation. I think it's rain that's coming into the chimney dripping down the liner and then existing at one of the joins as the water is reddish brown and very smokey smelling. Is this normal? Our chimney has a cowl but the gap between the top of the pot and the cover of the cowl is at least 6 inches, so rain wouldn't have a problem getting down it. Thanks M

It is possible that the liner has damage and water is coming from the brickwork. Without putting a camera up its hard to say but it could be a number of small factors

I would also like to know did you have water comming down the liner before they done work on the flaunching as they could have dislodged something so water can get in
