Noise in pipes when toilet refills

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

Moved in a couple of weeks ago- whenever upstairs neighbour refills their toilet I can hear a whooshing sound in the wall, about 10 feet from their bathroom. It must be water running through the pipes- and I cant actually hear their toilet/taps going, just the toilet refilling as the water passes a specific point in the pipes. I'm guessing some kind of calcium buildup in the pipe? Do you think I could ask the neighbour to lower the water pressure via an isolation valve for the toilet, would that help? Any way to fix it if it is buildup in the pipes? it's very noisy Many thanks

Hi. I guess you are referring to the somewhat annoying noise of a ball valve filling the toilet... they can resonate and it can be quite loud. A repair (replace seating / washer) or new valve may sort this out but ask plumber to check first, allegedly. You could offer to have the work done and paid for... for peace of mind, although it likely also annoys your neighbor also! Good luck, Bob.
