What trader for victorian terraced front patio levelling, tiling and metal railing.

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

We moved to a victorian terraced house with very old concrete front patio, having cracks with weeds popping out, messed up level... Our intention is to level the concrete, install tiles and then add some metal railing with a gate. We are struggling on getting quotes for this. We asked a landscaping company specialised in Victorian patios and their rough quote for the whole work seems quite over the top (£8.5-£9.5k for a 5m by 0.5-1m patio) and includes replacing and disposing the full current front patio. We thought we could get more reasonable prices by breaking the job into different specialised tradesmen. What we struggle with is about the steps/tradesmen we need. For example: To fix and level the concrete we will need XXX tradesman, for tiling we need a tiler, and for the metal railing we need another further specialised fencing tradesmen. I don't know if a tiler can also fix and level the concrete or I need a different person for that. Maybe a driveway person? Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, I would search for a general builder who has multi skills to quote for the works. Generally, most reputable builder will be able to offer suggestions on where to go to source certain parts for the job or provide you with a catalogue to select say the tiles etc. The metal railings and gates could be more bespoke if you cannot buy off the shelf supplies to fit. However as mentioned, a good general builder will best guide you to your options.

I think One building and construction company is your best option as construction Companies have tradesmen that specialise in all aspects of building work Calling different companies for each project is not a good idea As they say too many chefs spoil the soup

As a landscape company we would undertake all the work , and unless the railings are super expensive i personally think that quote is well over the top. we lay all sorts of slabs outside and the same principle applies for the victorian tiles,so you dont need to call lots of different trades.

No need to source different trades as a company like mine would take an all the work detailed. Maybe get a few more quote to see if the original quote you got was a bit high. Also the cheapest is not always the best option.
