Door frame that sits on the face of a wall
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.35 PM
I have an over the stairs recess in one of the bedrooms which I want to use as a storage cupboard. To finish it off I want to put a pair of matching 6 panel internal doors, the same as the other wardrobes. This recess goes all the way to the ceiling but not the floor. I don't want doors that fit the recess so that they look like they're floating in mid air but down to the ground. What's the best way to build/fix the frame to the face of this stud wall?

Hi,
From your description, it sounds like you need to simply fix your frame to the face of the wall. This would be best into the upright studs of the partition, but that may not work exactly to the width of the doors. You should be able to get a strong low fix and high, as the partition should have a horizontal timber top and bottom. As long as the frame is secure, you can then hang the door and this will be as a normal room door. If you are planning to have the doors to the ceiling, you will struggle to find a door that tall.
The other issues you need to watch out for, are the wall being plumb, ceiling, floor level and the trim finishing of the architrave to the front face.
Good luck
