Combi boiler - Hot water turns off when opening cold water tap is slightly open

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

Hello, While using the bath mixer tap, the hot water feed will turn off after opening the cold water feed. The only work around I have found is to turn on the heating to constant and this partially seems to stop the loss of the hot water feed, while taking a shower. However, the hot water tap on the basin and the bidet will not work unless the central heating again is set to constant, even though the hot water taps are open on full. I had a heating engineer suggest that my water pressure is low but an engineer from Thames Water stated that it is at an acceptable level. I do not feel like my water pressure has dropped since last year, so I am wondering if the boiler is at fault. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Kind regards, Leon

My initial thought is the diverter valve may be faulty, this controls which service is called for hot water or central heating

It mainly depends on what kind of system you have. If you have a combi boiler I would have the diverter valve checked to ensure the solenoid isnt sticking. I would also check the flow sensor and thermal couplings. I hope this helps. Kind regards Scott Kelleher SK Plumbing and Electrical Solutions
