Insulation

Spray foam insulation for solid floor

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

I have concrete slab with copper pipes on top, for gas and water, in my kitchen. I need to insulate it and then put screed on top. The screed will contain my water under floor heating pipes. I have got rigid insulation where I can except in the kitchen where I have too much pipes and will require too much cutting of the rigid insulation which makes it weak. Is spray foam strong enough to use (to have screed on top) in the parts where the pipes are? Any other suggestions? Many thanks for your expert advice

As long as the propriety edging is employed and the joints in the 100mm Celotex are taped the expanding foam can be used. Be sure to place visqueen to the underside of the topping ( which will temporarily bridge the uppermost face of the existing 100mm Celotex to maintain floor level range ). Next day remove the temporary bridging & visqueen. The foam would have risen to the same height as the Celotex. Then 55 - 60 mm fibre cement screed. To allow for heating to function at its capacity. Ensure the levels are correct to ensure the screed does not fail. Remember you can be a little lower but never higher as the minimum requirement for fibre screed is considered to be 55mm. In short if your levels are dodgy then dig out a little of the foam insulation to maintain range.
