How should a tiled hardwood plywood WBP bath panel be protected?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.54 PM

I would like to have a tiled bath panel. I have been told that there is an inherent problem that will arise with water penetrating from the bath to the edge of the plywood. I have been told that although waterproof tile ahesive and grout will protect the surface of the bath panel water will eventually affect the edges. Is there a way of protecting the edges and if so what is it?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello I would use a cement board instead of the plywood as this is waterproof and is a better suface to tile onto. Thanks Phil TOUCHSTONE TILING

Hi, I have experienced something very similar to this before, a good way to protect the edges is to apply a water repelling adhesive or sealant to the edges before installation. Apply once, let it go off then apply another to give a very good barrier against water ingress :-)
