Painting over oil based satinwood
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.35 PM
I’ve painted skirting and arcs with oil based satinwood and it’s too glossy. Can I rub down and repaint Over with oil based eggshell or do I need to undercoat first?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It should be ok to paint over after rubbing down, Did you stir the satinwood up well ?, if its older paint (or old stock, the oils can come to the top).
If in any doubt apply a undercoat (don't forget rub down once dry to form a key for the eggshell.

Before using any oil based paint on wood you should always rub down / prepare the surface and undercoat, preferably using oil based undercoat.
Before painting the eggshell over the undercoat you should give the surface a light rub down using 120 grade sandpaper.
I hope this helps.
