Power shower slow leak from bottom, quiet buzzing noise & intermittent temperature/pressure changes

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.35 PM

I have a Triton power shower which slowly leaks from the bottom of the shower unit, and makes a quiet buzzing noise and intermittent temperature and pressure changes. The buzzing noise disappears when I turn off the electrical power to the shower. I'm not using it, just in case is dangerous. It is less than 2 years old. I live in a hard-water area, and have read this could be caused by a scaled-up heat exchanger/cylinder, and that to replace this would cost more than replacing/getting another shower fitted. Could someone kindly confirm if this is the likely cause, or if not, what it could be/is the solution still the same? Thanks.

It could be, there are several reasons this could be happening. Don’t use it until it’s fixed. Get an electrician to check it over. Buzzing and water don’t mix.

Keep the power off and replace it. I’m assuming you’ve had it a while, if there’s possible limescale build up? It also sounds like the washers have worn/calcified. Hope this helps.

The reason your shower could be leaking from the bottom It has blown its safety device which is like a PRV next to the bottom of the shower hose this could be due to a buildup in limescale in the head of the shower and because the hole is so small it is struggling to push the water through hence the buzzing Is boiling the water continuously. You really need a qualified plumber to come and have a look but they are cheap to replace

If the unit is less than 2 years old it could well be under guarantee so speak to Triton first. Don’t use it whilst it’s not working properly although any electrical problem should trip the mcb if it was fitted correctly it’s best to be safe.
