Replacing non-switched FCU spur with a double socket
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.34 PM
Hi, I’m installing a Qettle boiling water tap. I’ve got a 13A non switched FCU under the kitchen units which my dishwasher is wired into. Can I simply replace that FCU with a standard double socket - I’d then want to plug the 4 litre mini boiler and the dishwasher in the double socket. Any issues with this solution? Many thanks Dave

Hello,
Your product comes supplied with a 13 A plug. It must be inserted into a socket that has a switch. Therefore the unswitched FCU can be swapped out for a double socket that includes integral switches for each socket. You can plug your dish washer and your Quettle Mini into it.
Assuming that the Unswitched FCU is wired with 2.5mm 6242Y, and protected by a 16 or 20 A OCPD. Also, all socket outlets rated 32 A or less are required to be 30 mA RCD protected. You may already have RCD protection in place.
As always, have an electrician attend and advise. There’s only so much we can advise or say on here.
Regards,
Carl.

What do the manufactures installation instructions say for this Qettle? Does it come with a plug already on it? What kw is it? All relevant for a proper answer.
