Floor creaking after installing new laminate
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM
Hi all, Hope you can advise. I have bought a flat on 2nd floor of a purpose built building and it had old carpets everywhere, so we ripped them out and replaced with new laminate flooring. However, after that, I have noticed that floor started creaking in places/ being a bit bouncy. Should I be worried or is this just a nuisance?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, In my experience that creaking sound and bounce suggest that the laminate is to long. You must have an expansion gap around the perimeter of about 8mm .

Without seeing and hearing the issue, it is difficult to be 100% sure of the reason. It may be down to wrong or poor quality underlay and/or incorrect installation. You should definitely not have “bounce” or “creaks” in laminate flooring. I would advise going back to the company who installed it and explain your concerns.

Hi, couple of things it could be but not limited to are insufficient or incorrect underlay causing voids or no expansion gap allowed around the perimeter.
100% ask the fitters to inspect it because leaving it could create visible issues.
