Best solution for wooden wet room door?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.15 PM
Hi, We have a wetroom with a wooden door that is swelling and warping as it gets splashed by the shower. We plan to remove the door and dry it out. What would be the best paint/varnish/treatment to protect the door from further damage? Thanks.

Do you know what wood your door is made of.It obviously hasnt deen sealed and protected.Unfortunatley if it has warpedand swelled i dont think drying it out will work. Also the door hinges might have been under a bit of stress. Also is there plenty of ventilation in the wet room.

A strong oil base paint such as eggshell tough and durable after sanding down and undercoated. A good option would be to change the door though.

in my opinion the way to bend or warp any timber/ wood is to 1.steam it 2. soak it in water, thats what you've possibly achieved.
me i would replace the door and make any replacements as same as the surface as the walls.

Try to avoid drying door to fast as may warp , then totally strip door of any varnish etc, using a chemical stripper's or heat gun. , Any damage areas apply Wet rot hardener, and wood filler. When satisfied with the condition of door , apply a stain if needed , and then yacht varnish , a few thin coats should do.
