Hello Approvedelectrics, I will try to be as clear as I can with this. When you say a vented heating system, I assume you mean a gravity fed/open vent system with a feed/expansion tank in the loft? If yes, then when a powerflush is done on this kind of system, the cold feed from the tank and the open vent to the tank will both be isolated, meaning this then turns your system into a pressurised system. This isn’t anything to worry about, the pressure is only what is provided through the power flushing pump, which isn’t a huge amount. If your system suffers from air locks, the pumped powerflush water should be man enough to get through all of the air locked areas, so should clean those pipes too. Powerflushes do work if done right. All rads should be hit all over the front with a rubber mallet to loosen as much dirt as possible and the direction of the flow should be changed regularly through the flush to dislodge anything which may not move one way but will move the other. Any powerflush is better than no powerflush, even if it is only a raw water flush with fresh water. You will notice the difference. Hope this helps, Steven.

The answer from Aspire property souluation is an excellent one is comprehensive. In addition to the power flush, I'd suggest replacing the CH tank in your loft by an expansion vessel. In this case your system is no longer garvity fed and becomes pressurised system. Betterstill, you can convert your garvity fed system by removing the vented cylinder you have in the airing cupboard and replace it by unvented cylinder. In essence, you replace your existing system with megaflo. BRgds, Jordan
