Should it be the responsibility of the builders to use cover sheet before starting the work

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.14 PM

Hi Everyone, We have some builders who were contracted to install windows for us. When they started the work, they did not use any cover sheet for the staircase and work areas. It was a mess. We had to clean the carpet and wipe the floor many hours. 1) How should we ask them politely so that they should fork some money to buy cover sheets for staircase and work area ? 2) Is it a mandatory step that they should do this without anyone asking them? Many thanks

Specially for experience builders they should know that they will create a mess. Should be part of their quote to put down protection so they don't create any mess. Have a polite chat with them and see if you can both come to a solution.

Good day to you, WITHOUT PREJUDICE: I understand your problem, regarding the mess the builders did or doing while undertaking your project, and my answer is a very simple and please excuse to what I have to say. The problem here is not the builders, but 99% of the time is the Clients fault, because on the choice as to which builder should undertake the job, and only base their decision on ''PRICE'' alone, and do not undertake any simple due diligence as to the reputation of the builder.... So as they saying goes: ''You ay peanuts you get monkeys'' My honest answer to your question now, is simple: Just ask the builder straight on to compensate you for the cleaning, and if he/she is a reputable builder they will respect your request, because to any reputable builder, ''reputation comes first instead of money'' Just ask them straight or retain some of the final payment if they do not agree..!! I hope this helps, and good luck for next time...

It's the responsibility of the workman to provide dust sheets etc , and shouldn't be added to the quote

If they are not protecting the floors i.e work areas, then tell them to do one. They are not professional
