Can a fuse box and meter be moved?
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.54 PM
I have just purchased a property where the electric meter and fuse box are located slap bang in the middle of a living room wall - not very asthetically pleasing! Can I have them moved? If so, who do I need to do this work? Can I just get an electrician in or do I need to consult my provider etc...

Yes its possible to have the fusebox moved, this can be carried out by a registered electrician and will cost between £300 and £700 depending on whats involved and how much rewiring is needed. Your electricity supplier may resite the meter free of charge, once the fusebox and incoming cable are in their new positions.
However you can expect to pay several thousand pounds approx £2k to £7K to get the incoming electricity cable moved to a new position, it its quite involved and may mean that your garden is excavated so the old cable can be cut and extended etc. You need to contact the Distribution Network Operator for your area, which may well be a different company to your electricity supplier. You can then request a quote, but normally have to pay in full in advance and the work will be booked in to be done several weeks later.

yes it can be moved, an electrician can move the fuse box, and the utility company would need to move the electric meter.
hope this helps
