Bathroom Fitting

Cracked bath - repairable damage?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.14 PM

Hi The bath has cracked, of about a 3 inches at the back of the bathtub where it slopes upwards. It moves when you put pressure on it. Is this repairable? I don’t want to go to the trouble to replace the entire bath. Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi unfortunately not, you will need to get a new bath fitted, the good news is that this will be covered on your or your landlords insurance. Best of luck

There are kits available to fix a cracked bath from fibrefix which i have used on a bath in the past, in conjunction with epoxy resin, but that was only a 3-4mm crack with very little movement in the bath. but to be fairly honest you are better off getting a new bath, a 3 inch crack that is moving when pressed is going to be very difficult to fix. In the long run having a new bath fitted is going to be a lot cheaper and last longer, than fixing it, the fix failing and then causing more problems with water leaking from the bath, through the ceiling below, then not only do you need to fix the bath, you will also need to replace the ceiling, have it plastered and painted and also replace anything else damaged by the leak.

To try to repair just waste your time, crack will come back again. Best way its to change the bath.
