What order should I get my office redecorated in?
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.14 PM
I'm wanting to have my office stripped and prepared (sanding and lining paper) by a decorator. I'll then probably paint it myself and have a joiner come and replace the skirting, architrave and flooring. I'm also wanting some sockets added but I assume it makes sense to have this done first. Does it make sense to do it all in this order and in this way? Thanks!
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would strip the walls completely...take off the old skirting boards and architrave before putting on any lining paper.any new electric sockets can be fitted after completion of all painted.no paper should be damaged because this is usually tucked behind any old sockets so replacing them is easy done without any damage..thankyou.

Hello,
I would strongly advise you to strip your walls first.
Before filling and sanding ready for lining etc, get an electrician and get sockets installed after strip.
Once sockets are installed, prepare the surface ie filling in cracks and holes.
Then sand down for a crisp & smooth surface for the lining.
After lining get your joiner to install or replace skirtings.
Finally, get painting.
Painting is your last job.
Hope this helps

Sockets first, architrave 2nd,painting 3rd,fitting floor and skirting 4th.
If your office is 2 floor start from the top and come down.

What Ali said!
Do not line room out until new sockets are installed. Incase walls are solid and electrician needs to chase out walls for cables.
Strip, remove extisting skirting/arc (if there is any), electrician in first fix, make good walls(fill), line, if new flooring is wooden then get installed so new skirting can sit on top (or do last if happy with quadrant), new woodwork installed, prep woodwork. I personally would get the electrian then to 2nd fix before painting incase any more damage prior to painting, final fill, paint!
Hope that helps!

Strip, Electrics, Joiner, Prep, Paper, Paint.
Any damage to plaster can be filled and cleaned up before the paper goes on the walls.
