Converting a traditional boiler with tank to megaflow

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.14 PM

Hi, looking to see how easy to convert a traditional boiler (installed in the garage about 8-9 year old) with a hot water tank (installed next to the bathroom) in a new house. 1) is it worth converting? What are the benefits (e.g. energy efficient, more hot water) compared to the existing system? 2) is it feasible to convert? 3) how easy is it to convert? Our normal water demand is not massive, only 4 people. our current house uses a combi which works well except when someone is showering. Thank you in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This is rather a question of economics Is your boiler a relatively new one ie under 5 yrs What are your demands of hot water No real problem to convert obviously additional pipework If your demands for hot water are for only a bath or shower plus normal other use and your boiler is older perhaps most economic way would be to replace with a suitable rated combi boiler Perhaps edit your post with more information about the above In view of age of boiler I would suggest a combi or go for complete new system

If you convert to a pressurised system, would be better, ie hot water on demand. If you can go for a combi boiler, it takes up less room & you don’t need tanks etc.. but do get it power flushed at the end

Depends on hot water demand. If the house has only one bathroom, and no other separate en-suites with showers etc, then don't waste your money. I'd wait for the existing boiler to give up the goat then with replace with a new efficient heat only boiler, and possibly other components depending on their current state, ie pump, zone valves, TRV's etc, or go with a good combi with a good LPM output on hot water.
