Sewage smell in bathroom

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.14 PM

we have a relatively new build house (5 years old) and have suffered from sewage smells in two of our bathrooms. The affected bathrooms have the stack pipe running through them. This originally was not vented properly. The builders claim to have remedied the issue and it initially seemed better but then recurred and we are now out of warranty. The smell seems worse when it is windy outside. The two rooms (one bathroom, one loo) are on different floors but in the same corner of the house. The third bathroom is not affected.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The sewer smell in the bathroom could be coming from evaporated water out of the sanitary ware traps. Try filling these back up by running the water down them Possible bad installation of the toilet possible broken seal Cracked or poorly fitted soil stack possibly cracked or seals failed The sewer smell in the bath room is also not good for you

to many cow boys, no way smell can come in the bath or inside property, if the p trap work. change the bath drain, to kitchen waste.

It maybe what the other plumber said...but any new. Build has to be signed off by building control, and then is covered for 10 years by NHBC

It could be blocked drains outside of your property. Iv seen this three times in last year on new build sites. Generally poor workmanship or building material blocking the drain. I have also seen another cause which was a pan connector going into a soil fitting without having any 110mm pipe between the fitting and pan connector. It could also be that your air admittance valve has failed. On new build sites they pack the soil so tightly with insulation and this effects the operation of this valve, leaving it open and foul smells to come out.
