Who is at fault?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.14 PM

If an electrical cable is in the wrong position after plasterwork is complete who is at fault? The electrician or the plasterer?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Depends on the agreement. Typically an electrician would leave a cable hanging in position and then ‘fish’ it out from behind the board after cutting the hole needed for whatever fitting it is intended for. Some boarders are nice and do this bit for the electricians. It is not part of their job though. If the electrician has agreed with you that the boarder would fish the cables and cut the holes, it would be the boarders problem. Other than that it is always the electricians problem. Unless the boarder has trapped the cable somewhere inaccessible or moved it from the original position. Normally a little group chat sorts these matters out, as they all want to get the job done with as little fuss as possible.

Hello, When you say “electrical cable in wrong position” what do you mean by this? 1. Do you mean in terms of cable zones, whereby the cable hasn’t been installed within the permitted zones? If so, electricians fault. 2. Cable 1st fixed in a location whereby a piece of equipment is expected to be in that location, but has since changed? This could be down to more than one person and a lack of communication... 3. 1st fix wiring not installed to supplied and communicated specification - Electricians fault. There are probably many variants, without knowing the full extent of the issue 😊
