Damp Proofing

High humidity in rooms, want to cure the problem

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.33 PM

Hi. I have an old victorian ground floor apartment c1905, solid walls, but ventilated and a PIV unit installed. We have had mould problems before but I was told this was lifestyle related (hence PIV installed to help. Recently redecorated and now its empty with no one living there but the bedrooms are showing humidity readings of RH 70+ and I want to find the source of why this is so high. The floors and walls are dry, no obvious leaks and guttering ok, but there is a sub void crawlspace (has airbricks) with a clay soil floor and I am wondering if this is causing moist air to rise up? Need advice but concerned from past experience from damp experts who suggest vastly different things!

Is you rh tester a good quality one as It might not be accurate . Between 35-55% is ok sometimes slightly higher in the winter months so if your reader isn’t that accurate you wouldn’t be far off that .

If the place has been closed up then the RH will naturally rise . It’s almost impossible for the RH to be influenced by anything but air exchange. The RH outside is very high at the moment so it’s s bit of a problem if the place is vacant .
