Bathroom extractor fan regulations

I am currently converting an old bedroom into an en-suite. The room has a large window that opens fully, but has no existing fan or vent of any type. Do I need to also install an extractor fan to meet building regs? I had an electrician tell me that it is required whenever you do a new bathroom and a plumber told me that it isn't required if there is no existing fan or vent.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I expect that is for a new build. Not for a bathroom refurbishment. You may get away without an extractor if its a small household and the room is well ventilated, (draughty). If the walls are porus ie not concrete they can absorb moisture and release slowly.

If your work is subject to building regs then you must fit one. If building inspector isn’t involved then it’s your choice

In your situation it is not a legal requirement to install an extractor fan. Although there are benefits to installing one such as preventing mould, condensation and lingering smells.

There must be some form of ventilation. This can either be an extractor fan or a window that opens.
