Bathtub Trap leaking
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.53 PM
Hello, Is it necessary to replace an existing bath tub trap (Mcapline bath trap 40mm) with the same trap, or can a flexipipe be substituted? Issue is that there is still a small leak where the elbow connects to the horizontal pipe, even though a plumber said there is no tread issue or used washer. Please help Thanks

Hi. I have seen many times where a plumber / handyman unscrews the trap looks inside the trap hole where the waste pipe pops in and sees a black washer... then screws it back up tight only to have it still leak. Why! Because the black washer needs to be over the waste pipe and then inserted into the trap for tightening. Simple. Hope that is it for you. Bob.

You will need to use the bath trap as the trap has a constant amount of water inside the trap to prevent the smell coming up from the drain pipe.

My advice would be to replace with a mcalpine trap as these are the best quality traps available.
You could replace for a flexi connector but just bear in mind they can be more prone to becoming blocked as oppose to the conventional hard piping.
I would also advise to use solvent weld joints wherever possible.

If they have gone threw all the trouble of taking of the bath panel then put a new one on no need to change stile of it and a flexi pipe won't stop any smell coming back up the plug hole hope this helps
