Damp Proofing

Does a drywall+Styrofoam helps to prevent mould?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.52 PM

I found this in my rented flat as protection against mould/damp. I doubt this kind of insulation. Behind is an old brick wall. I attach 2 photos. What would be a professional tradesman solution? The flat was refurbished recently because black mould took over and the previous Tenant moved out. There is no heating in the kitchen. And moisture is being high in the entire flat. Paper and clothes are damp daily. I will buy a hygrometer. It's a ground floor flat. Thanking you in advance.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It sounds that you have a condensation issue I suggest some form of positive air ventilation. Check your R/H a ideal level would be between 30/50. Hope this will help

It definitely sounds as though it is a condensation issue. To solve it you need 3 things working together, heating, insulation and ventilation. Make sure the property is being adequately heated, not just for 1 or 2 hours per day. Insulate where you can to prevent cold walls and windows and provide adequate ventilation, positive input ventilation works very well for all properties and you need good extraction from all wet zones.
