Combi Boiler with an internal tank vs a magaflow

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.52 PM

Hi I need to upgrade my boiler in a house we are planning to renovate. Currently it has a system boiler with a tank. Ideally I'd like to do away with the tank, as space is tight. The house will have a couple of bathrooms. Recently I came accross a combi boiler with an internal tank - such as this one : https://www.viessmann.co.uk/products/gas-boilers/gas-condensing-boilers/vitodens/vitodens-111-w Do you think that would work in my case? I know another solution is to install a tank in the loftspace, such as a megaflow. Be good get some professional thoughts on the two solutions - plus I think the megaflow would be a significant increase on the costs? Thanks all Nick

Hi Nick. If it were my own project I would keep it simple, low cost and low maintenance. A standard c/h and h/w boiler connected to a indirect cylinder with extra coil length (fast heat up) with separate cold storage... or fortic tank. A full bath of steaming water in about 15 minutes from cold... and many years of trouble free hot water, allegedly. Good luck. Bob.

I wouldn't use a combi or a aortic with 2 bathrooms. Either a standard storage tank if you can get a decent height or a large unvented cylinder.

Hi If you're having a few bathrooms, I would go for a system boiler with an unvented hot water cylinder. With this cylinder you wont need to have a separate C/W storage tank.
