Part-Removal of Chimney Breast and Building Control Regulations

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

You'll have to forgive my ignorance as I'm a first time buyer and I'm not clued up on the rules and regulations surrounding renovations and I have tried my best to do as much research as possible but keep getting confused. I am moving into a 1930's semi-detached property and would like to remove the rear ground floor chimney breast, retaining the breast in the rear bedroom on the first floor, including the stack. I understand everything surrounding adding support to the floor/ceiling to hold up the remaining load. However, I can't seem to get my head around the building control regulations surrounding it. Can someone please explain to me whether or not building control would need to be informed of this alteration if I employ a tradesman who is registered under a competent person scheme, or can I proceed with the work and obtain a completion certificate from them and then notify my local authority of the changes within 30 days following the receipt of my completion certificate? Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Building Control will have to be informed, as it is a structural demolition job, not a installation.
