Floor Tiles in my hallway, kitchen/utility I dont like and want them changing

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

Been in my newbuild just over 2 yrs have the small skirting boards. tiled flooring was done when we moved in & I dont like (made a huge mistake), husband thinks im crazy 🤣. I want high gloss porcelain tiles. Will we have to take the old ones up? Its 18sq metres in total. If the answer is what I think it is taking them up, we are best doing same time as having our extension and new kitchen.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there yes you would have to take them up and they retile the floor. Yes also you would be better doing it when you have your kitchen and your extension done. Kind regards Anthony

I would not recommend tiling on top of tiles, especially floor tiles. Remove old tiles and make sure you have a solid, clean subfloor to work off. Also removing skirting and reinstating after the new tiles are down will leave a better finish.

Totally agree with the two above especially removing skirting. Another big reason for lifting old tiles is so as not to have to cut doors down and leave a noticable height difference between rooms.
