Plumbing

Tiled in sink with cubby hole but no p-trap, sewer gas escaping.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hi, I've just moved into a newbuild (second owner, out of snagging period) and I've been having an issue with sewer gas coming through the bathroom sink. It looks like the sink has been installed without a trap, and they've instead used the space underneath to put in a box-like cubbyhole for storage. I want to try and get at the sink without damaging the cubbyhole box or the tiles around it or the sink. The cubby box is sealed with caulk around the edge and has what look like two screws at the back, but I wanted to check if anyone's seen something similar and knows the setup and the best way to get to the sink. Also if I'm missing something and there's an easy solution like caustic soda. Thanks all.

If there is a trap it should be a deep seal trap if the waste discharges to the soil stack. If a 10mm hole can be put in to the box you may be able to see the trap using a borescope
