Old ceiling wiring to new light fitting wiring.
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM
I’m trying to change ceiling light in bedroom. Old wires are blue & black in one connector and yellow in other connector. There are also green and red wires which had previously been taped up and not used. New light has standard earth, brown and blue. Could anyone please tell me what old wires go to what new wiring block. Thanks.

I’m only guessing here but the yellow is the switch wire which is live. Blue/black is neutrals the reds that are taped up are your loop feeds which are live so are essential. Same as green and yellows for your earth.
So, in summary
Yellow to brown
Blue/black to blue
Earths all together
The reds keep them as they are in a connector together.
If in any doubt call an electrician to do it safely and properly.

Hi,
The brown is a live wire and the blue is neutral. So brown would go with red and black to blue. Hope that helped.

I don't think the brown goes with the reds. The reds are most likely permanent live, the yellow switched live.
