Reduced hot water pressure after new plate fitted in combi.

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.35 PM

Hello, I had a new plate to plate heat exchanger fitted last week due to kettling, which fixed the problem. It was a 17/18 year apprentice at college who did it, and when he disconnected the cold water feed in, he put a new washer in when reconnecting on top of the old one without removing it, but didn't know it had broken, and there was a slight leak, and he had to come back and sort that out. Six days later, and I suddenly have lower water pressure at the hot water taps. It takes 20 minutes to run a bath instead of 10. Cold water pressure fine. Hot water temperature fine, heating fine. Could it have been something he has done that has caused this reduction in pressure? I've never had a problem with this before and seems too much of a coincidence that it is happening so soon after the work was done. No faults codes displayed. 6 year old glow worm combi boiler.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, it could be that the washer has twisted and partly blocked the cold water going through, or he/she has used leak seal which would stop the leak but block the hole. Also the heat exchanger has been changed due to scale, so some scale could of moved to the taps. Hope this helps

He’s probably left the isolation valve partially closed or stop cock if he’s touched it.
