Plastering & Rendering

Is this a poor plastering job? Beading exposed and 5mm off level (140cm span)

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.34 PM

Hello all, I had a building company quote to create 2 holes and fit 2 windows within an extension. Making the holes, fitting metal lintels (to both skins) all went well, however the plaster finish doesn't look good, the beading does not meet in the corner and there are raised bits in each corner. The metal behind the bead edge also sticks out several mm beyond the plaster in places and I'm not sure I'll be able to sand the metal back to be flush. We've been offered £100 off the balance for the plaster work, however I'm unsure whether we could get the beading fixed for this amount with another trader. They are not interested in fixing it. I've uploaded some pics here: https://imgur.com/a/9S159D0 Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, unfortunately it seems you haven't had the best experience it is usual for the edge of beading to be visable, However there should not be raised parts anywhere and the beading should be flush with the corners. Instead of a refund I would expect them to come out and solve the problem. I would advise getting some polly fill to go over the parts of beading showing through the plaster and then sand. Hopefully this will help

It really is a poor job, but i would not panic. I would say the easiest fix would be to get a time-served plasterer to fix skim beads over the existing beads and re-skim the whole wall. This should only be a mornings work and should cost between £20-£30 for materials. £130-£140 for full job.

No way will you be able to sort that out for £100.that is awful work from a so called plasterer,if it were me I'd get the builder to sort it but with a different plasterer

That’s not great,I would get a quote for re doing the plaster, new beads and all, from another plasterer and I’d be surprised if it was £100,give your builder the quote, then knock off that price from the balance, then he may come back, depending if you want him to,or take the money and get it re done by others.
