Plastering a curved Artex ceiling

I have just moved into a house (1930s) that has an Artex ceiling in the First Floor Bathroom. The ceiling is a bit mouldy and is damaged and peeling of in some places. Ideally I would like to overboard it as suggested in other posts. However, the ceiling is curved on the abutment to the external walls so I don't think that's an option. Does the Artex have to be removed prior to plastering or can the new plaster go on top? Also would the plasterer remove the old ceiling or does that need to be done by a specialist firm. I'm pretty sure it contains Asbestos as it's been there for quite some time. I have a 7month old baby so don't really want to touch anything Asbestos myself. Thanks for your advice.
