Is it possible to move washing machine into bathroom??

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hello, I’d just like to know if it’s even remotely possible to move a washing machine into a bathroom? I live in a flat and both kitchen and bathroom are relatively small and moving the washing machine would mean having room in the kitchen to house other appliances properly. The bathroom has the bath, sink and toilet all along the back wall. The washing machine would have to go on the opposite wall so there wouldn’t be a direct link to the plumbing. Is this an issue or can additional plumbing be installed under the bath to reach where the washing machine would go? The wall I’d want the washing machine against backs onto the living room. Although that particular wall of the living room has no plug sockets, is it easy enough to install one for this purpose?? There is another wall at the end of the bath it could go against and this wall backs onto the kitchen. There’s currently a radiator hung on the wall in this particular space so presuming there are already pipes of some sort there. Not sure if it’s allowed to have the washing machine literally at the base of the bath however?? Thanks to anyone who can advise.

Provided that the sockets you install to supply electricity to the washing machine comply with the electrical safety zone regulations in bathrooms, this is fine. I highly doubt you will be able to place the machine at the end of the bath, as this will be under zone 2 and electrical supply to the machine will be against regulations. A socket will only be able to be installed at a minimum of three metres from the bath/shower. Please source an electrician to confirm if an electrical supply can be safely attained before considering further works.

The great news is a washing machine can be installed anywhere , in your bathroom you already have cold feed water and drainage so you will just have to extend these and put a washing machine valve in regards

I would strongly advice putting any electrical item in a bathroom, that is not specified for a bathroom
