Uneven ridge tiles and uneven top course of tiles
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.34 PM
Had a hip to gable loft conversion with a flat roof dormer on a semi detached house. The roof was to be re-tiled but the structure was built with the original roof at front intact with tiles in place as joiner thought the old tiles were going to be reused on the gable section until I explained that the whole lot was to be re-tiled in new clay rosemary tiles. Then joiner continued with insulation/plasterboard and it was plastered out before the roofers arrived to do their work. The roof was re-tiled but the ridge dipped in the middle, and there was a dip or snaking from chimney to the velux window. The roof did not look as good as others loft conversions in the street. The roofers came back and reset a few laths and refitted the ridge tiles (dry ridge system) to level it out. So now the first full plain tile top course at the ridge are tiles that are not uniform in size they are long in the centre of the roof and gradually get smaller to the chimney end and to the gable end. This has levelled out the ridge roof line but I think it looks wrong. Something has gone wrong here. Is it the setting out or is it the structure is wrong with the joiners work. There were issues with the ridge RSJ having to be refitted and this was fitted after the flat roof dormer was constructed. The tiling from the chimney area to the velux is still dipped and is this due to the structure beneath not being sufficiently supported because it was covered by the existing original tiles during the timber construction. Any ideas why this looks wrong? The re-tiling is costing £4 grand and it doesn’t look as good as other roof on loft conversions nearby in surrounding streets on the estate. Many thanks in advance. I’am trying to post some photos but can’t work out how on the website.
