Light fittings on the stairs
Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.34 PM
Hi, Iv just had the electrics tested on a property I rent out. I have 2 lights on the staircase wall, metal fittings. The cable suppling them is only twin not twin & earth. I need to earth them, is there something I can use to do this without pulling the walls to bits to replace the cables? Cheers Scott

Hi Scotty, yes, the easiest solution would be to change the light fittings for class II non-metal ones then you don't need to earth them. Make sure the switch isn't metal, too. Class II fittings don't require an earth.

Hi
I presume the lighting circuit only does the staircase if that is the case change all electrical accessories to class 2 light fittings and all switches to plastic.
Also a label should be attached to fuseboard regarding that circuit has no earth and no class 1 metal fittings to be fitted to that particular circuit.
