Is it common practice to UNIBOND new plasterboard ceilings to bring level?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.41 PM

ha ha SUBSTRUCTURE.. during theses difficult financial times we all cant afford to employ EXPENSIVE BUILDERS. Even if i had money to burn i wouldnt employ a PROFESSIONAL BUILDER like yourself with that attitude.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

perfect example of the old saying YOU CANT BUY EXPERIENCE any old properties renovations i carry out ,once we take the ceilings back to existing joists we take a stringline from end to end this shows up all uneven joists then we pack out accordingly and board over, people without building clout do it the opposite way ,board first then wonder why its f***** up .YOU CANT BUY EXPERIENCE this is why professional builders are the more expensive quotations, pay peanuts say no more ,now pay again and do it right

I think what you are referring to is bonding coat, not unibond as this is simply p.v.a.adhesive.You could level the ceiling with bonding coat but 2" out of level is far too much.Would be much easier to simply batten down off ceiling joists to correct level,re tack then skim.

Hi you dont unibond ceilings unless they have been previously plastered or the boards have warped. It would be a better idea if the ceiling was battened to bring it level. The only thing you could use to bring it level without battens is bonding. you cant use hardwall as it is only used for floating and will not key to plasterboards Chris

the carpenter needs to level the ceiling or it can be bonded(using hardwall not ideal on a new ceiling) , Unibond should not be used on new plasterboard ask the plasterer how he intends to Unibond the ceiling level?

Take the board down and level the ceilings.Bonding isnt a great idea and if your plasterer actually meant unibond, not bonding then you should bin him before he starts as he doesnt know anything at all.I suspect he meant bonding, but levelling the joists is the way that i would go about it.
