Can i leave MOT 1 sub-base down for a month before laying slabs?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.34 PM

Hi Folks - I am laying a 12m2 patio. I have dug out the area and have got sub-base ready to go down but slabs are not due for delivery for a month. Can i lay the sub-base and whack it now or is it better to wait until the slabs arrive before llaying and whacking the sub-base?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You'll want to whack the mot as soon as you get it preferably, because it has sand in it, if its left for a long period of time it will just turn to mush and won't be workable.

Yes you can leave it down it won't affect it and people walking across it over that period it will compact and settle but still need compacting again befor slab laying.

Ok it is ok to lay mot and make sure you compact it in stages ,so try lay 50 mil then compact it then another layer and do the same once you have finished .Put a cover over it so no seeds fall in it from birds flying over it as they can drop seeds and it will start to grow weeds or just wait till you can do all of your patio at once .But you must make sure if you have dug out already and your going to wait make sure you cover it and put bricks around edges so weeds can not grow .Kindregards mr leon ward

I would say if compacted properly this will seal the stone down and should be fine

Yeah, as long as it's sealed properly with roller or Wacker plate it can be left, i used to build roads and would be left a while before tarmac.
