Windows resized from survey measurements to fit fibreglass canopy

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

We have been told canopy is right size for our aperture, and window sizes had to be adjusted to suit the fibre glass canopy to ensure the correct overhang of the canopy. This has resulted in what I consider to be wide gaps (35mm one side and 25mm the other -????) between the frame edges and the brickwork. They have been filled with expanding foam, facias glued on and wide sealant used to seal gap. From my research on GGF guidelines/ questions and advice on here/ the accepted gap seems to be within 5mm to 10mm limit. ( walls are straight no overhang of brick). When I queried this with the tradesman he said "it's different for bow Windows and is quite acceptable." He also said if Windows were made bigger there would be no way to secure them to the brickwork because of them being shaped the way they were to suit the canopy. Does this sound right?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Sounds like the frame are to small or the angle of the welded sill is wrong . It should touch the brickwork and even if they put add in onto the frame would be better than trimming a glass filling with foam that’s very bad practice.
