Can you install trim to cover 30mm gap on side of the bay window?

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

Hi, We had just had new bay window installed however there is a gap of 30mm on one side filled with foam. The other side is fine. They now say that it has to be trimmed. Is this normal practice to put trimming on sides to cover too big gap? I know that gap should be 5mm-10mm but is above acceptable? It doesn’t look good as there is already big trim put outside on one side which doesn’t match the other side and the same bay window downstairs. Thank you Anna

They've made a mistake on survey so if you can live with it and tell them to put a 10mm add on each side of the frame and then trim and seal it would be far better.... Hope that helps....

It depends on plasterlines inside.its all well and good people saying its not right but we can't see the job or the reason for the gap

Not acceptable should be a snug fit yes you do have to foam outside and use a larger trim it sounds like they have the angles wrong

The clients are expecting replacement of their windows as though there is no movement in the building, as though the original builder fitted frames exactly to the aperture( I have rarely seen an example of one who has). For their installation company to have installed the bay within a tolerance of 30mm to one side is exemplary. It is exhausting to have to explain to clients who sit behind a desk all day, or who are just anal, that replacing windows, especially bay windows, is not 'Lego'. Please be true to your ethics 'My Builder'; and allow a commonsence answer to this company's predicament.

Unacceptable it should be equal both sides and trimmed equally, this needs to be done properly
