Kite mark on toughened glass

Anonymous user 16/03/2024 - 2.33 PM

Should the etched kite mark on toughened glass be on the inside or outside of the glass on double glazed units? We seem to have a mixture and wondered if this was ok?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi, as long as the unit doesn't have k glass fitted, the kite mark can be either side, both units will be toughened, so it is irrelevant If, however one side has the k glass coating, that pane must be to the outside elevation

Yes it is fine, there is no regulation for where it has to be. It just states it has to be present and visible to identify that it is toughened position would be how ever units been put in. I personally would always try keep it in a lower corner just to take the eye away from it and keep it uniform,

I agree with Quick fix windows and doors. There is no regulation where the stamp has to be, just as long as it is present and to be honest the sealed unit manufacturers pay no attention to where they put them in production so it is pot luck really. Sorry to disagree with Target property maintenance services but he's got it completely wrong! The K glass coating goes to the inside elevation. It even states that on the labels!.
