Sitting rainwater coming in through air vent?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.14 PM

"We moved into an 1840s house recently and have just have some wall replatered to the front at ground floor level as it had blown. No sign of damp but we had wondered. Now after very heavy rainfall there is visible damp on the plaster which should have dried out by now. I’m convinced the rain is sitting on the gravel bed at the front of the house, and getting in through the air vent. That’s exactly where this damp patch is. Does this sound likely and how do we fix it? We’re about to decorate that room and really don’t want to have to wallpaper again because it’s become damp! Could the air vent be blocked or do we need to find a way to simply drain the water away in heavy rain? We revelry first the drains and guttering cleared in case it was that- as the drainpipe runs near to there as well. No visible leaks. Please help!! TIA

You have a drip felt problem you should take it 2 tiles back and replace the felt given that the felt is good as you go up the roof and install a hps support tray to insurer that any water that passes through will flow out towards the gutters many thanks Edward

You need an aco drain along the front of your house 1 course of brick or 75mm below dpc and have it running into a soak away. This will prevent water sitting next to the house and finding its way in which it is clearly doing.
