Why do you need to put backerboard over plaster board ,if its ok why not just tile the plasterboard if that's what you intend to do ,if it's in a shower area then ideally it should be cement board , but you can always tank the plasterboard as long as it's not painted , but in general backerboard is better than plasterboard for tiling.For your floor you can go for 6mm cementboard direct to floorboards glued and screwed ,rule of thumb 12mm to walls and 6mm to floor.

Hi yes as long as it’s Hardie Backer or equivalent and screwed through the Plaster board at 200mm intervals into the wall batons. But! if used for a shower enclosure you will need to use Aqua boards and tanking material at corners. So for your floor as long as it’s Hardie backer boards or equivalent yes screwed as specified into your floor boards but again if in a shower enclosure you will need to use a Aqua panel for floors Knauf is one of many also tanking material which there are many varieties. Do not take short cuts which can come back and haunt you. Also as for weight note your walls are only as strong as the weakest point but note the load is amortised over the wall and as long as your stud portion is sound and build to a specified standard then there won’t be any issues but note the Boards you use must be screws through the plaster boards into the Stud portions at the 200mm Intervals. As for tank painting systems or tanking straight into plaster board you need to follow the manufacturers instruction exactly. Yes there are systems out there for tanking one product which is recommend is Laticrete Hydro Ban which is a fast curing liquid membrane can used outside and in for tanking over Plasterboards amazing stuff.

Hi, I would suggest removing the plasterboard first based on this information. I’m guessing your wall is a studwork (timber) partition. That determines how much weight you can hang on it. So you will have plasterboard, add cement backer boards, then tile adhesive, and lastly the tiles. Add all the weight of these together if they were in a pile on the floor, then try and lift it? simple answer is you can but don’t bother just tank the walls if there good and sturdy! with the floor do not put 6mm board on top of floor boards as it’s not good enough and any decent tiler will tell you that! the only way you can put 6mm board on a wood floor is when it’s 18mm ply down first. remove floorboards replace with 18mm ply then clad with 6mm board glue and screw! best way and only way of doing it! the walls either tank and tile or if there big heavy tiles then replace with 12mm bal board or hardie backer.
