Roughcasting - what is it and is it complicated to get fixed?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.13 PM

I am looking to make an offer on a house but am unsure what this extract from the Home Report means: There is missing, bossed and loose roughcast to the rear of the side extension. The walls have been mainly roughcast although there is a section on the rear elevation which still has the old harling. There is broken render above the rear window. It is in the report as a level 2 but concerns me mainly as I don't know that it is! Does this sound like the kind of job that could get expensive and therefore needs to be considered when making an offer? Also if this is posted in the wrong section, please let me know and I will edit it!

Roughcast is a external coating over render, it consists coarse sand ,lime, small stone, sometimes called (wet dash) was popular in the sixties seventies. Can be removed easily enough with small kango ,when removed check render for cracks and dampness, removing a small area of render to see what you have and what you need to do .Normally not a big problem if the blockwork is sound, all the best with your project .Would be able to give you more detail on seeing the problem ⛏⚒
