Do I need to fit insulation and loft feet for storage.
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.12 PM
We moved into a new build Taylor wimpy home in November last year, i'm planning on boarding out the loft just for small storage. There is no insulation between the joists on the loft floor as it is installed in the loft ceiling. I was going to install boards straight onto the joists. Reason being insulation isn't needed in the joists (I understand i'm heating the loft without using it) so I do not need the legs to create a gap.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Totally up to you if want to put extra insulation in. I wouldnt say it needs it with it being a new build. Joists should be fine to stick boards straight on top

It's very unusual for buiders not to insulate loft at the joist level as its part of building regs to have at least 270mm
insulation in the loft.
Most of the houses are build with cold roof which means the loft area should have any heat penetrating from the house if insulated at the ceiling level. If I would be you I would ask builder who to come and have a look and confirm in writing that your house was built to specs.
